"What a weekend" for teenage racer Kyle

Friday April 09 2021

Redcliffe’s Kyle Evans has made a stunning start to the 2021 Queensland State Formula Ford Championship - and now he's aiming to repeat the feat in round one of the NSW titles.

The 16 year old won the opening round at Warwick last month taking first, second, third and fourth in the four races, with the fastest lap of the weekend and fastest lap in two of the races.

That gave him victory in the Duratec section of the state Formula Ford titles, three weeks after an impressive ninth place in the first national round.

Podium place

“Wow, what a weekend,” he said, “huge thanks to Chris Purvis for dragging the best out of me, while setting up the best handling car.”

Evans qualified third on the Saturday with a best time at Morgan Park of 1 minute 19.534 seconds before finishing second and fourth in that day’s races.

The following day, Evans started fourth in race three and finished the 10-lap race third with his best lap time of the weekend of 1:19.138.

Winning ways

He started race four in third place, moved up to second on lap three and took the lead the following lap to win the race.

There were 22 entries in the Formula 3, Formula Ford and Sports Cars on the track with Evans, with six in the Duratec category.

Evans gave “massive thanks” to Brett Evans, in his pit crew and all his racing partners for their support.

Sydney Motorsport Park in Eastern Creek is the venue for Round One of the 2021 NSW Formula Ford Championship this weekend with timed practice on Friday and them racing Saturday and Sunday.

Round Two of the Queensland championship is at Queensland Raceway near Ipswich on April 24-25.
