What's a year? For those of us a tad older it is literally a moment in time. On the other hand, a teenager may well consider it to be closer to a lifetime. Spare a thought for 15 year old Kyle Evans, who had to wait ten months to wait ten months to make his Formula Ford debut.
Having tested the 2004 Van Dieman RF04, that he had signed up to drive with Greg Fahey Motorsport in August 2020, Evans was set to run in the Queensland and NSW State Championships in 2020.
Then came COVID-19.
While Queensland managed to avoid many of the outbreaks that beset much of NSW and Victoria like a plague, a combination of Federal and State Goevernment decisions effectively curtailed Kyle's racing throughout the first portion of 2020. He finally gained approval for a race meeting in late August at Morgan Park Raceway.
Up against National Formula Ford Champions Tim Hamilton and Dylan Fahey, Evans acquitted himself far better than anyone could have imaged.
Despite some slow starts, which are a key aspect of Formula Ford racing that Kyle had been unable to practice during lockdowns, Evans drove back through the field to claim a treble of third placed finishes across the weekend. He also finishes across the weekend. He also finished third for the round on overall points.
"It was well worth the wait to finally get back on track in the Formula Ford for the first race meet. Huge thanks to EzyStone Benchtops, Velocity Motorsport Magazine, Aus Timing and Chris Donnelly from QRDA for getting the cars back on track," Evans said.
Kyle Evans is set to return to Morgan Park Raceway for the Motorsport Australia Qld State Championship Round on November 20-22.
